Finding Image Data, Software and Documentation
To get an overall view of the CD, run the MS-Windows File Manager
located in the Main Program Group. A typical Main
Program Group open window is displayed below with the
File Manager
icon circled in red.
Double click this icon to run the File Manager.
In the File Manager, choose your CD-ROM drive.
In our case, the CD-ROM drive shows up as
drive E:
but on your
computer it may be a different drive letter.
An overall map of the CD is displayed above.
This image is takened from our MS-Windows File Manager.
Your display window will look slightly different but the
directory structure should be the same.
As you can see,
the topmost directories are:
- Data
- Documentation
- Roadmap
- Software
We have also opened each of these directories to show the
next level of subdirectories
below them. This will give you a better idea how the CD is organized.
Some of the directory and filenames may seem funny to you. This is
because the DOS/MS-Windows 3.1 operating system has a limitation of
eight characters per filename.
However, we try to make the filenames recognizable more or less.
For example,
the Guided Tour is located in the /ROADMAP/GUIDTOUR.HTM file.
Below are descriptions of the contents of each topmost directory:
Data
The /DATA directory contains images, text file descriptions of the
images, and other data. A description on
how the image data is organized
is now available.
A good way to see the images is through the
Picture Room
in the
Guided Tour.
Pre-mission images and information
is also now available. The information is a bit raw though.
Document
The /DOCUMENT directory contains five lesson modules for students,
a teacher's guide and files to create overhead projector slides
for classroom presentations.
A description on
how is the documentation organized
is available.
You may also view the documentation on-line.
Start by looking at the table of contents for
lesson plans, slides and teacher guides.
Roadmap
The /ROADMAP directory contains the HTML files that show you how to
get around CD. Descriptions of how the CD is organized, what software
is available and other general information is located here.
The
Guided Tour
is located in file /ROADMAP/GUIDTOUR.HTM
on the CD.
Software
The /SOFTWARE directory contains the software that you will need to
view the HTML files, display images and play movies.
A description of the
included software for the PC Special Edition of this CD
is also available.
