The Animals of the Polar Regions
(Yes, there really are things that live there!)
These arctic hares live in the High Arctic. Although the North Pole is cold,
plants can still
grow there and provide food for these "Ice Bunnies." As you can see, the hares
are approachable.
This is a killer whale. Killer whales eat fish and other animals that live in
the ocean. They are very intelligent animals,
and their distinctive black and white bodies make them easily identified.
And here are some more animals, compliments of
the Nansen Center:
This is a walrus. Its big tusks are useful for defending itself and its young
from predators.
This cuddly polar bear never eats penguins. Do you know why?
...because polar bears only live in the North Pole and penguins only live in the
South Pole!
